Well, well, well… look who’s curious about little ol’ me! 🥰 SHUCKS, I’m flattered!

Hey there! I’m Jessica (but you probably guessed that already), and I’m lucky enough to call my dream job my actual job.

Once upon a time, I was knee-deep in finance classes at Southern Miss, crunching numbers and pretending I wasn’t on the verge of crying over spreadsheets. Spoiler alert: I totally was. Somewhere in the middle of that academic suffering, I scraped together my very limited college budget and bought the cheapest Canon camera I could find online. It was one of those purchases that makes your bank account do a double take.

Before I knew it, I was wrangling my friends into impromptu photoshoots, clicking away with absolutely zero idea what I was doing but having the time of my life anyway. Turns out, that little impulse buy was the best decision I ever made.

Now, my photography journey has taken a few twists and turns, so buckle up!

I started out shooting portraits, mostly senior photos since I still had plenty of high school friends who were willing (and, let’s be honest, desperate) to be my test subjects. But after a while, I got bored and turned my lens toward rodeo. I grew up competing, so stepping back into that world with a camera in hand just felt right. But here’s the thing. Shooting rodeos isn’t exactly a gold mine. Kids screenshot pictures, costs pile up, and let’s just say the math (ironically, my old nemesis) wasn’t mathing in my favor.

Then, in April 2023, my cousin asked me to shoot her wedding. Now, I probably should have turned it down because, well… I had never shot a wedding in my life. But instead, I threw out a price, showed up, and did the dang thing. Looking back, those photos don’t quite measure up to my current work, but that wedding lit a fire in me. Suddenly, I saw photography as so much more than just rodeos and barrel races. I started booking more couples, families, and portraits in between rodeos. Eventually, I felt confident enough to open my books back up to weddings.

And that brings us here, where I get to capture love, life, and everything in between. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I wish I could go back and tell miserable, sleep-deprived, junior-year finance student Jessica that, yes, it does all work out. Just not in the way she planned. 😉
